Throughout my Genius Hour research, I obviously learned American Sign Language! Aside from learning signs and sentences, I also learned a great deal about ASL as a language. I learned that there was a unique grammar and syntax, and that ASL is very complicated. I also learned a lot about goal setting and time frames. I can apply the use of iMovie to teaching practices by having my students use a movie maker to complete a presentation, or even their own TEDTalk after their Genius Hour projects as this is definitely something I will be incorporating into my classroom. Allowing the students time to get familiar with the software is important before they use it for a project. Lastly, iMovie can be integrated into many disciplines because students can either record themselves for a presentation, i.e. record a science lab they did and include results, they can record others, such as for a drama presentation as well as taking pictures of their art and doing an online art portfolio. These are all creative ways to incorporate iMovie into multiple disciplines.
Genius Hour TedTalk
Hey everyone! Here is my Ted Talk style Genius Hour video. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to do this research. I absolutely loved my topic and I really did make some great progress. This is not the end of my Genius Hour journey as I still have a lot to learn!

Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you put a lot of effort and passion into you genius hour project. The transitions between clips were done very smoothly! I think adjusting the volume on the videos would have beneficial (the volume seemed quite quite). I also really liked how you added what you have learned at the end of the ted talk! That was very cool to watch and it shows that you have spent a lot of time working through learning a completely new language. I'm curious to know the books and some videos that you used to learn ASL. You could have added a slide at the end or when you briefly talked about the books.
Overall awesome work on the culminating task of our genius hour assignment.
